<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>Available for Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Tenor, and Baritone, the Developing Classical Singer collections of British and American songs have been put together to suit the advanced teenage singer, or university student. Each book comes with online audio access to recorded piano accompaniments so you can practice to your heart’s content.</o:p>

Each book contains a different selection of songs which have been selected for their appropriateness to voice-type, with some key songs appearing in each. The vocal ranges have been kept relatively closed as they are aimed at the student singer, with the challenges of each piece being focussed on developing other aspects of the voice. The preface to The Developing Classical Singer divides the songs into sections including: Agility, Breath Support for a Long Phrase, Building an Expressive Legato Phrase, Expanding Vocal Range, Dynamic Contrasts, Sensitively Expressing Poetry, Building Musicianship, and Personality and Storytelling.</o:p>

The songs are foremost Art Songs from twentieth century British and American composers, mixed in with classical arrangements of folksongs. Staples such as Britten’s O Waly, Waly, Quilter’s Love’s Philosphy, and Vaughan Williams’ Linden Lea make this an excellent collection for the emerging classical singer or as a great teaching resource. On top of this, it being a Boosey and Hawkes publication allows for more unusual songs to be included such as works by Bernstein, Duke and Rorem, not often seen in similar collections.</o:p>

If you’re looking for a new challenge, or just something different to get stuck into, we would highly reccommend this book!
